Platform Fits Most 88 Key Keyboards

Platform Fits Most 88 Key Keyboards

The updated Platform's keyboard tray is 3.75" wider than the original version, making it 57" wide. While this may not seem like a huge change, it is the difference between some of the most popular 88 key keyboards fitting or not, making it a very impactful improvement for producers.

When we redesigned the Platform, one of the biggest issues we knew we needed to address was the keyboard tray not being wide enough to accommodate certain keyboards (cough S88 cough). The original Platform was designed for the keyboard tray to be optional, so it was tucked in between the back legs, and to avoid any interference when pushed in, had to be a bit more narrow than we would have liked.

However, over 90% of orders included the keyboard tray, so when we set out to improve the design, we made the keyboard tray standard, expanding and integrating it into the back leg that now extends to the front of the desk. This allowed us to add nearly four inches of width, increasing compatibility significantly.

There are some models that still do not fit, but that's mostly due to height, and since we don't want our desktop to be the same height as the moon, you'll still need to get a stand for those thick beasts.

Below are the updated Platform's keyboard tray dimensions and limits.

Width: 57” (Opening span including slides--actual wood tray width is 56 2/16")

Depth: 14.87”

Opening Height: 5”

Max Weight: 45lbs.

Keyboards That Fit

Please note that this is a non-exhaustive list, and all of the models listed are assumed to be the newest version. That said, there are some older models that still won’t fit in Platform’s tray. To ensure a fit, please measure your MIDI Keyboard and compare to the maximum dimensions of the Keyboard Tray, listed above in bold.

Too Thick to Fit

If your Keyboard is still too large, worry not!  There are alternate configurations for workflow, using Platform:

  • MIDI Keyboard on Desktop Surface, Mouse + QWERTY on KB Tray
  • Placing MIDI Keyboard on top of adjacent Sidecar
  • Keyboard Stand to the side of the Platform

For any keyboards not listed we recommend that you measure them or find their specific dimensions online to be sure. If it’s under 57”(L) x 14.87”(W) x 5”(H) in size and weighs less than 45 lbs., then it is good to go!!  However, keep in mind that if your controller is nearly 57" wide, it will need to clear the slide attachment mechanism that is 0.5" high on each side. Most keyboards have feet that will clear that.

Metric Conversion - Under 1447mm (L) x 377mm (W) x 127mm (H), weighs less than 20.42kg
